I Love Him

Girl's Day

Gwen and I had Girl's Day on Friday.  We went for our first mother/daughter mani/pedi.  It was so cute.  They had a little bowl for Gwen's feet.  They even massaged her feet and legs.  They were so sweet to her when she wanted pink and purple alternating with a layer of sparkle on her toes (this girl knows what she wants).  Afterwards we had ice cream.  It was fun and am looking forward to the next Girl's Day.  I am guessing it won't be another mani/pedi as I go to relax and she talked the entire time...............

One Year Doctor Update

I took Leo to his one year doctor appointment on Friday.  His stats:

Height:  31 inches (85%)
Weight:  24 lbs & 1 oz (75%)
Head:  95%

He's a solid dude.

The good news is that his peanut butter allergy is a skin allergy.  The doctor took one look at the picture and knew that instantly.   We are not supposed to give him peanut butter until he's 3. We can give him food where peanuts are the 3rd + ingredient and he should be fine.  We have to carry Benedryl with us at all times now.

Leo's First Birthday

Mike and I decided to take the day off and take the family to the Denver Aquarium for Leo's birthday.  Leo loves animals so we thought it would be better than spending an afternoon at the zoo in the sweltering 100 degree sun.  We had a great time and Leo loved the fish.  There was a huge fish that scared him as he sat by the glass.  Gwen ate her way through the aquarium and was at her own pace.  Leo walked away with a stuffed shark and Gwen got another bag of rocks (makes 3).

It was a great day and it was so good to spend the morning with Leo while Gwen was at daycare.   He is such a happy and busy baby.  He climbs the stairs and gets into EVERYTHING.  It's amazing how stealth he is and how quick he can crawl.  He does love to pull himself up and cruise the furniture or us.  It was good for him to be able to play with his toys without Gwen bossing him around and telling him which toys he can and cannot play with (even if they are his toys).

I did ask Mike just now, what he thinks we should say about Leo.  His reply "he's a pain in the ass".  That doesn't surprise me much since he has had bouts of waking up at 5:00 am (even on weekends), screams like a little girl (seriously, it's a high pitch squeal), and constantly wants "uppies".  We can't carry around 24 lbs of baby all the time.  Luckily his cuteness over powers the PITA :-)

Then & Now

In honor of Leo's birthday, I thought I would share "then & now" photos.

Birthday Letter to Leo

Not a day goes by that I don't think about the day we met.  The nurse held you up and I saw that you were a little boy.  My mom (your grandma) screams in delight and your father couldn't be prouder.  Me.........well I fell in love instantly.  The day we met is my "happy place".  It is the place I go when I want to relax and have life be put into perspective.  It's the scene I see 99% of the time when I first close my eyes.  It's a moment that still takes my breath away.  I am in awe that it was one year ago today that we first met.

I remember always saying "what on earth would I do with a little boy?".  Now, I could never imagine my world without you.  My favorite time of day is when we sit in the rocker together and you are falling asleep on my shoulder.  You are such a cuddler and your smile lights up every room you are in.  You are kind of like a dog in that when you hear "hi" or "bye" you immediately start waving.  When I walk into a room you get that huge smile on your face and put your arms up.........it's "uppies" to you!  I'll pick you up and get the biggest hug.  Your love, your happiness, your innocence is so contagious.  You make any bad day good, just by one glance.

I am though surprised that you survived your first year with Gwen as your sister.  She always hugs you a little too hard or "pats" you a bit too rough.  She was, and still is, obsessed with your head so that took the brunt of the "loving".  As mad as I get with her, I can't help but smile.  Watching the two of you together makes my heart so happy.  You completed the family.  You completed our world.  You completed my soul.

Happy Birthday Baby Leo.  Thank you for changing my life.  I look forward to watching you grow and becoming an amazing little person in the years to come.  I just hope they don't come too quick...........I love you.

Love,
Mom
