Leo's Big Boy Bed: Take 1

Since we would be traveling a lot this summer, we decided to put Leo into his toddler bed.  It lasted less than 2 weeks.  At first he would sleep and only get up occasionally.  It was great.  Then the nightmare began.  He would get up around 2:00 am and barely sleep again unless he was with us.  When he "slept" with us he would be sideways, kicking, crying....etc.  The lack of sleep caused me to be extremely grumpy and it was tough to function.  I was like the walking dead most days.  So back up the crib went.  He seems happy.  He is sleeping through the night, but back to getting up around 5:15 am EVERYDAY.   Even though he gets up early, I am guessing he will be in his crib until he goes to Kindergarten.  Getting up early is better than not sleeping at all right??

The Mountains Trip #1

We took our first trip to the mountains this summer.  We rented my friend's condo in Frisco with the McSwains.  It was a great time, although children learn to suck the "relaxation" out of "vacation".   Honestly, I don't think I have ever started a Monday as exhausted as I did after this weekend.

There was this great BBQ festival going on where I ate mac-n-cheese with pulled pork and BBQ sauce on top.  It was one of the best things I have ever eaten in my life.  We walked there so many times over the weekend and one time I was walking uphill, pushing Leo in the stroller, with Gwen on my shoulders (also a tad tipsy as the served wine at the festival).  This was the day after an 8 mile run.   The guys golfed, the kids played at the park, we through rocks in the marina.  One day Gwen had this fried potato thing for lunch.  Everyone ate too much and slept too little. 

I would be lying if I didn't say it was a rough weekend.  I am hoping July 4th goes a bit smoother.

I Love Warm Weather!

I'm not going to lie.  I love warm weather.  I love the sun.  Growing up in NY, the sun and nice weather was very rare, so even 12 years into my life in Colorado, I still feel guilty being inside on a sunny day.  So I try not to.  The kids love being outside as much as I do........well maybe not Gwen.  That girl loves her some TV.

It's only early June and we have done so much.  It's our first full summer with our back deck, so we can really white-trash out our yard (plastic folding chairs, plastic pool with the plastic slide going into it.....etc).  We have already visited the fountains.  It was the first time Leo could really run around.  I thought back to his first birthday party, which were at the fountains, and tears came to my eyes.  Not sure how time flies so fast.  We've just been having fun and enjoying life!

My Crazy, Beautiful, Wonderful Little Girl.

I had Gwen's Parent-Teacher conference the other day.  I learned that Gwen's cognitive abilities are those of a 5 or 6 year old.  She's 4.  She reads better than most children going into Kindergarten and can easily count to 109 (it's just another thing that adds to her constant talking).  Since she is so smart she tends to try and hang out with the teachers more than the other kids, even looking at the boys like they are idiots (she already gets it).  She will act out when bored, which makes me nervous for when she finally goes to Kindergarten and will be one of the oldest.  I'll take each day in stride, but loved getting confirmation from what I already knew.  My daughter is amazing...........
